Meet Atlanta Psychologist & Psychotherapist

Dr. Jamie Kennedy

I'm a licensed clinical psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia who helps people better understand their thoughts and feelings, and learn new ways of behaving and relating that reduces their emotional pain and improves their lives.

I earned a Ph.D. at Emory University and now serve as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine.

What brings you in?

I work with patients on a range of issues, including:

And it's ok if you don't know...

Many people begin therapy without a specific goal, and exploring your needs and what is most important to you can be impactful therapy on its own.

My Approach to Therapy & Counseling

These are some of the main elements of therapy that you can expect if we work together.

Caring and Connecting

My approach begins with building an empathetic, accepting, and genuine partnership with you. Speaking openly with a stranger can be scary and challenging, so I will work to make you feel safe to share and explore vulnerable issues with me.

Accepting & Changing

We will use structured, evidence-based techniques to help you accept what you cannot change and change what you can. Your preferences, priorities, and values will guide the work that we do.

Building Insight & Awareness

Together we will get curious about you and your life, and see if we can notice any patterns in your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, or relationships that might be getting in the way of living the life you want.

Monitoring Progress

We will monitor progress on an ongoing basis and change course, as needed. I want to ensure that therapy meets your needs, moves you toward your goals, and equips you for life after therapy ends.

Specialized Therapy for Anxiety, OCD, Depression, Stress Management, & Men's Issues

I also provide specialized, empirically-supported therapies for people who want to work on things related to a specific mental health diagnosis. Stress management and men's issues are also a focus of my therapy practice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How effective is online therapy?

Research shows that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. I've also found that online therapy can be particularly helpful when working on anxiety, OCD, or depression, as it allows us to work on things relevant to your daily life during therapy sessions. For example, if anxiety has made it difficult to leave your house then we may practice taking gradual steps outside of your house during a therapy session. It's worth noting, however, that online therapy may not be a good fit for some people, and we will discuss this during treatment planning.

Q: Do you take insurance?

I am not “in network” with any insurance companies. However, most preferred provider organization (PPO) insurance plans will provide some out-of-network reimbursement for therapy, and I can provide a monthly statement that you can submit for reimbursement. Please speak to your insurance provider prior to scheduling a session to understand whether your plan provides for reimbursement, the amount that will be reimbursed, and what you will need to provide to receive reimbursement.

Q: How much does therapy cost?

Fees vary based on the service you receive. Fifty-minute therapy sessions typically range from $150 - $185. We will finalize your fee before we schedule your first appointment. I require a credit card ahead of time and accept most major credit cards, as well as most FSA and HSA debit cards. Your credit card will be charged at the conclusion of each visit. I do reserve a few sliding scale spots for clients who would benefit from a reduced fee, so feel free to inquire about that if it'd be helpful to you - ultimately, I want therapy to help solve problems, not create new ones. The Open Path Psychotherapy Collective is also a helpful resource for finding affordable therapy.
